Common questions
Why did the app pick a longer route? SafeCycle prefers low-stress streets — bike lanes, cycle tracks, quiet residentials, and alleyways — over busy arterials, even if the arterial is shorter. You can switch between the "Safer" and "Faster" options in the route preview to compare.
Why does it tell me to "cut through alley"? Toronto's laneway network is genuinely quieter and more pleasant on a bike than parallel collector streets. The app will suggest alley shortcuts where they make the route safer.
The app is rerouting me even when I'm on the path. GPS in dense urban canyons can drift. The app waits ~4 GPS fixes off the polyline before rerouting, but a stubborn drift can still trigger one. Let us know which intersection if it's reproducible.
